This 5 Nights 6 Days Middle Andaman Adventure is deliberately different from our classic Havelock-and-Neil itineraries. It's built for travellers who want to go beyond the postcard beaches — into the Middle Andaman belt, where the roads cut through dense jungle, the ferries are government-run, and the beaches are empty enough to hear your own footsteps.

You'll start in Port Blair with the essential Cellular Jail and its Sound & Light Show, then head north on Day 2 on an early-morning drive to Baratang Island — crossing Middle Strait by vehicle ferry through the Jarawa tribal reserve, riding a boat through mangrove creeks to the ancient limestone caves, and visiting the bubbling mud volcano. You'll continue on to Rangat for the night.

Day 3 is the highlight for many guests — a government ferry across to Long Island, one of the most picturesque and least-visited islands in the Andamans. You'll spend the day at the famous Lalaji Bay Beach, with its long sweep of white sand and clear blue water that's superb for swimming, snorkelling, and scuba diving. Long Island is also a favourite among honeymooners for its quiet, secluded charm.

Day 4 is a full day of Rangat sightseeing — the magnificent Amkunj Bay Beach with its evergreen creek-side forests, the rocky terrain of Moorys Dare (a trekker's favourite, just across Amkunj Bay), and the 720-metre Dhanni Nalah Mangrove Walkway. Day 5 brings you back to Port Blair with an evening at the local market, and Day 6 is your departure.

Arrive at Veer Savarkar International Airport, Port Blair in the morning, where our representative will meet and greet you. You'll be transferred to your hotel for check-in and a short rest. After lunch, set off for Corbyn's Cove Beach, located about 9 km from the city — a beautiful coconut-palm-fringed beach that is ideal for swimming, sun-bathing, and simply soaking in the island breeze.

Later in the afternoon, proceed to the Cellular Jail Museum — the infamous "Kala Pani" where India's freedom fighters were once imprisoned. In the evening, attend the moving Sound & Light Show at the jail, where the heroic saga of the Indian freedom struggle is brought vividly to life against the backdrop of the historic prison walls.

Note: You have an early start tomorrow (3:30 AM) for the Baratang drive. Please pack a small day bag tonight and get to bed early.

Today we start very early — around 3:30 AM — as we drive to Baratang Island, roughly 100 km from Port Blair. One has to travel by road and cross a creek on a vehicle ferry at Middle Strait to reach Baratang. The road journey from Port Blair to Baratang passes through dense jungle, and en route you may — if you are lucky — catch a glimpse of the Jarawa, one of the oldest tribes of India, in the protected reserve.

On arrival, visit the Limestone Caves — reached by a half-hour boat ride through mangroves followed by a short forest walk. These ancient cave formations of stalactites and stalagmites were shaped over millions of years and are among the most remarkable natural sights in the Andamans.

Also visit the Mud Volcano at Nayamale — a rare geological phenomenon where cool mud bubbles up from deep below the surface, one of only a handful of such sites in India. Afterwards, proceed towards Mayabandar and continue on to Rangat, where you'll check in for the night.

Please note: Vehicle windows must remain closed and photography/videography is strictly prohibited while passing through the Jarawa tribal reserve. Convoy timings are fixed by the local administration. Carry drinking water, snacks, and a change of clothes.

Overnight stay at your hotel / resort in Rangat

After breakfast, board the government-run ferry from Rangat to Long Island — a short crossing to one of the most captivating and least-commercialised islands in the Andamans. Long Island's charm lies in its picture-perfect sandy beaches, quiet village life, and the absence of crowds.

Visit the famous Lalaji Bay Beach for a truly memorable experience. Reached by a short boat ride or a forest trail from the jetty, Lalaji Bay offers a long crescent of white sand, shallow clear water, and excellent conditions for swimming and snorkelling. The island's lovely blue, clean waters also make it a popular spot for scuba diving, and its secluded setting has made Long Island a favourite among honeymooners.

Return to Rangat by the evening ferry and settle in for the night.

Please note: The Rangat–Long Island ferry is a government service with limited daily sailings and fixed timings. Sailing schedules may change at short notice due to weather or operational reasons, and the day plan will be adjusted accordingly.

After breakfast, set out for a full day of Rangat sightseeing — the quieter, greener side of the Andamans that most visitors never see.

Amkunj Bay Beach

This beach is magnificent and offers an exotic experience of cruising through the creeks lined by evergreen forests and deep-seated mangroves. Enjoy watching the exotic flora and fauna of the island surroundings. Nature lovers, ornithologists, botanists, and zoologists would be typically interested in visiting these parts, given the wide variety of flora and fauna.

Moorys Dare

Moorys Dare is a fascinating rocky terrain situated very close to the famous Amkunj Beach, just across Amkunj Bay. This destination is especially attractive for trekking lovers. Spend a blissful time in peace and solitude in the midst of Moorys Dare, with sweeping views out over the bay.

Dhanni Nalah Mangrove Walkway

An amazing walkway similar to that in Baratang Island. The 720-metre-long walkway winds through the mangroves and is an interesting, easy experience for all ages — ideal for photography and for seeing the mangrove ecosystem up close.

Please note: Moorys Dare involves rocky, uneven ground and is best suited to guests comfortable with light trekking. Wear sturdy footwear and carry water.

After breakfast, check out from your Rangat hotel and begin the drive back to Port Blair — retracing the jungle road south through Middle Andaman, with the same vehicle ferry crossing at Middle Strait and the Jarawa reserve stretch. The journey takes most of the day, so sit back, enjoy the forest views, and keep an eye out for birds along the way.

On arrival in Port Blair, check in to your hotel and rest. In the evening, head out to the local market at Port Blair — the perfect place for last-minute souvenir shopping, local snacks, and a feel for island town life. Pick up shells, handicrafts, spices, and Andaman-grown coffee before you fly home.

The morning is free for packing, last-minute souvenir shopping, or personal activities. Depending on your flight schedule, you'll be transferred to Veer Savarkar International Airport for your onward journey.

As you fly out over the turquoise waters of the Andaman Sea, you'll carry home memories of jungle roads, mangrove creeks, ancient limestone caves, bubbling mud volcanoes, and a beach on Long Island that few travellers ever reach.

Travellers seeking resort-style luxury should consider our Havelock / Neil itineraries instead.

Baratang & Middle Andaman — Important Notes

  • The road journey from Port Blair to Baratang passes through the Jarawa tribal reserve. As per government regulations, vehicle windows must remain closed and photography and videography are strictly prohibited in this stretch. Convoy timings are fixed by the administration and cannot be altered.
  • The Baratang excursion requires a very early departure (around 3:30 AM) from Port Blair. Guests must be ready at the hotel lobby on time — late arrivals may miss the convoy and the entire day's plan.
  • The limestone cave visit involves a boat ride through mangrove creeks followed by a short forest walk. Comfortable footwear is essential. The caves are dark and the trail can be slippery during monsoon — guests with limited mobility should reconsider this excursion.
  • The Baratang stretch and mud volcano may be closed on certain days or during restricted periods as per local administration orders. In such cases, an alternative sightseeing plan will be offered or the affected cost refunded.
  • The Rangat–Long Island ferry is a government-operated service with limited daily sailings and fixed timings. Sailing schedules can change at short notice due to weather, tide, or operational reasons. The day plan will be adjusted accordingly, and refunds for missed sailings are as per the operator's policy.
  • Road travel from Rangat back to Port Blair on Day 5 is a full-day journey (typically 6–8 hours including the ferry crossing). Guests should plan their onward flights accordingly and avoid early-morning departures on Day 6 where possible.

Travel Documents & Eligibility

  • Indian nationals do not require a special permit for Port Blair, Baratang, Rangat, or Long Island, though ID verification is required at checkpoints. Foreign nationals must carry a valid passport and Indian visa, and may require additional permits for certain Middle Andaman areas — please inform us at the time of booking.
  • Children below 5 years travel free without a separate bed. Children aged 5–11 are charged at child rates (with or without extra bed, as selected).
  • Senior citizens and guests with medical conditions are advised to consult a doctor before travelling and inform us in advance. This itinerary involves long road journeys and light trekking.
  • Pregnant women are advised against the Baratang forest walk, Moorys Dare trek, and long boat rides. Kindly consult your physician before booking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking this tour

How is this Middle Andaman itinerary different from your Havelock and Neil Island packages?
This is our offbeat, adventure-focused itinerary. Instead of the well-known Havelock and Neil Island circuit, it heads north into Middle Andaman — Baratang, Rangat, and Long Island. You'll travel by road through dense jungle (including the Jarawa tribal reserve), cross straits on vehicle ferries, ride boats through mangrove creeks, and explore limestone caves and mud volcanoes. Beaches are quieter, hotels are simpler, and the experience is far rawer. If you want resort comfort and the famous Radhanagar Beach, choose one of our Havelock / Neil packages instead.
What exactly is the Baratang Island excursion like?
It's a full-day trip starting at around 3:30 AM from Port Blair. You'll drive about 100 km north by AC vehicle, cross Middle Strait on a vehicle ferry, and travel through the Jarawa tribal reserve (windows closed, no photography). At Baratang, you board a boat that takes you through mangrove creeks for about 30 minutes, followed by a short forest walk to reach the limestone caves — remarkable stalactite and stalagmite formations created over millions of years. You'll also visit the mud volcano at Nayamale. Afterwards, you proceed via Mayabandar to Rangat for the night.
Is photography allowed on the Baratang trip?
Photography is strictly prohibited while travelling through the Jarawa tribal reserve between Jirkatang and Middle Strait — this is a government regulation and vehicle windows must remain closed in that stretch. Once you reach Baratang and are on the boat, at the limestone caves, or at the mud volcano, photography is generally permitted. Your driver and coordinator will advise you clearly on where you can and cannot take pictures.
What is there to do on Long Island and at Lalaji Bay Beach?
Long Island is one of the Andamans' best-kept secrets — quiet, sparsely populated, and stunningly pretty. The main draw is Lalaji Bay Beach, a long crescent of white sand with clear blue water that's perfect for swimming and snorkelling. The island is also known for scuba diving, and its seclusion makes it a favourite with honeymooners. There's no commercial development — no beach shacks, no crowds — so it's really about enjoying the sand, the water, and the silence.
Is the Rangat–Long Island ferry reliable?
The Rangat–Long Island ferry is a government-operated service with limited daily sailings and fixed timings. It's generally reliable, but schedules can change at short notice due to weather, tide, or operational reasons. Seats cannot be pre-booked online — they're allotted at the jetty on the day of sailing, and your local coordinator will assist with ticketing. If a sailing is cancelled or missed, we'll adjust the day's plan accordingly.
What is Moorys Dare and is it suitable for everyone?
Moorys Dare is a rocky terrain just across Amkunj Bay from Amkunj Beach, popular with trekking enthusiasts for its rugged landscape and views over the bay. It involves walking on uneven, rocky ground, so it's best suited to guests who are reasonably mobile and comfortable with light trekking. Sturdy footwear is essential. Guests with knee problems, limited mobility, or very young children can skip it and spend more time at Amkunj Bay Beach instead.
What kind of hotels are available in Rangat?
Accommodation in Rangat is limited and consists mainly of small hotels and guesthouses — clean and comfortable, but simpler than what you'd find in Port Blair or Havelock. There are no large resort properties here. We book the best available options in the 3-star equivalent category, with attached bathrooms, AC, and breakfast. If you have specific preferences or requirements, let us know at the time of booking so we can match you to the right property.
How long is the drive from Rangat back to Port Blair?
The drive back on Day 5 typically takes 6 to 8 hours, including the vehicle ferry crossing at Middle Strait, the Jarawa reserve convoy stretch, and a lunch stop. It's a full day of travel, so we recommend planning a post-noon or evening flight on Day 6 to allow for any delays on the road. Your coordinator will advise on the best flight timing when you enquire.
What is the best time to book this Middle Andaman package?
The best time to travel is between October and May, when seas are calm and road conditions are good. We recommend booking at least 45 days in advance during peak season (December–February), as Rangat hotel availability is limited. During the monsoon (June–September), the Baratang boat ride, the Long Island ferry, and Moorys Dare can be affected by rain and rough seas — we do operate during this period at lower rates, but with adjusted plans.
Are flights included in the package price?
No, airfare is not included in the package price. However, we can help you find the best flight options to Port Blair from your departure city, and we'll coordinate your airport pickup accordingly. Just share your preferred dates and we'll suggest suitable flight timings. We strongly recommend a post-noon departure flight on Day 6.
Can I combine this with Havelock or Neil Island?
Yes, on request. Many guests combine a Middle Andaman adventure with a couple of nights on Havelock for a mixed trip — offbeat jungle and caves first, then the classic Radhanagar Beach experience. Since this requires careful ferry coordination, please mention your interest when enquiring and we'll design a combined itinerary (typically 8–9 nights) for you.
Is the itinerary flexible if I want to skip an activity?
Yes. The itinerary is a suggested plan, not a rigid schedule. If you'd prefer to skip a particular sightseeing stop and spend more time at a beach or at the hotel, simply inform your local coordinator. We'll adjust the day's plan wherever possible without affecting the overall trip. Note that the Baratang excursion and the Long Island ferry are fixed-departure trips — skipping them entirely would need to be communicated in advance.
What happens if a ferry or boat excursion is cancelled due to weather?
Cancellations due to weather are rare but possible, especially during monsoon. For the Baratang boat ride and the Rangat–Long Island ferry, if the operator cancels, we reschedule to the next available sailing where possible, or offer an alternative sightseeing plan for that day. If a sailing cannot be arranged at all, the affected portion of the package is refunded as per operator policy.
